The Edcon Board has delegated authority for the day-to-day affairs of each of its divisions to the executive managers. The executive management team is mandated to assist in reviewing the operations of and performance of the Group and its subsidiaries, developing strategy and policy proposals for consideration by the Board and implementing the directives of the Board.

Dwight M Poler BA (Amherst College), MBA (Amos Tuck School) Chairman
Dwight was appointed director of Edcon Holdings Limited in May 2007. Dwight is a Managing Director at Bain Capital, which he joined in 1994. Previously, Dwight was at Bain & Company and prior to that he worked in the mergers and acquisitions department at Morgan Stanley & Co in New York and Tokyo.

Bernie was appointed to the board as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director on 30 September 2015. Previously, he was chief executive officer of Australia’s largest retail department store group, Myer, Bernie has an extensive career in retail that span over 35 years. Prior to Myer, where he spent nine years, Bernie spend 24 years with Woolworths Australia, which included two to three years projects in China, Hong Kong and India.
Jürgen Schreiber MBA (University of Mannheim) Deputy Chairman
Jürgen was appointed to the board as Deputy Chairman in 2015. Previously he was chief executive officer and managing director from April 2011 to 2015. Prior to this, he was president and chief executive officer of Canadian health and beauty retailer, Shoppers Drug Mart Corporation. Before to joining Shoppers Drug Mart, Jürgen served five years with AS Watson Group, an international retailer and manufacturer. Jürgen also had a 14-year career with Reckitt Benckiser, a global consumer goods company.

Toon Clerckx MA (Applied economics) Antwerp University, Chief Financial Officer, Executive Director
Toon was appointed chief financial officer and member of the Edcon Holdings and Edcon Limited boards in 2014. He joined Edcon from Boots Health & Beauty division, a multi-national pharmacy-led health and beauty retailer, where he served as chief financial officer. Prior to this, Toon worked in several senior finance roles in the USA and Europe. These include Philips, General Motors Acceptance Corporation (GMAC) Financial Services and Exxon Chemical, which included significant private equity and financial services experience. Toon has served on various boards in both executive and non-executive roles.

Dr Urin Ferndale BA, MA (University of the Western Cape), PhD (University of Johannesburg) Chief Operating Officer Executive Director
Urin joined Edcon in 1999 as the Group Human Resources Director. In 2007, he was appointed as the Chief Operating Officer, and as a director. Prior to joining Edcon, Urin was employed as Personnel Manager, Human Resources Manager and Labour Relations Manager at several listed companies and parastatal entities.

Edward was appointed director of Edcon Holdings Limited in May 2007. He is a Managing Director at Bain Capital, which he joined in 1997. Previously, Edward was a consultant with Bain & Company and also worked in the European mergers and acquisitions group at Banque Paribas.
Matthias Osthoff BA(Oxford University), MA (Stanford University), MBA (Harvard Business School) Non-Executive Director
Matthias Osthoff was appointed non- executive director of Edcon Holdings Limited in April 2015. Matthias is a Principal at Bain Capital, which he joined in 2008 and where he specialises in consumer, retail, industrial and energy. Prior to joining Bain Capital, Matthias, A Baker Scholar from Harvard Business School, was a consultant with The Boston Consulting Group where he consulted in the medical, steel, automotive and infrastructure industries.
Roanne Daniels MBA (Harvard Business School), BA in Economics ( University of Virginia) Non-Executive Director
Roanne was appointed director of Edcon Holdings Limited in June 2014. Roanne, who joined Bain Capital in 2005, is an Operating Partner and was previously an Executive Vice President. Prior to joining Bain, Roanne was a consultant at McKinsey & Company where she led teams in the healthcare and consumer products industries. Roanne has also worked in the investment banking division of Morgan Stanley and in the editorial division of Reuters.

Zohra was appointed director of Edcon in 1999 and non-executive director of Edcon Holdings Limited in July 2007. A past president of the Institute of People Management, Zohra has advised government at various levels on aspects of housing policy.

Thabo F Mosololi BCom, Honours (University of the Western Cape), CA(SA) Independent Non-Executive Director
Thabo was appointed director of Edcon Holdings Limited in January 2013. He is currently the Operations Director of Tsogo Sun Gaming, a 100% subsidiary of Tsogo Sun Holdings Limited. He joined Tsogo Sun Gaming in 2002 as Finance Director. Thabo was the Chief Executive Officer of Gobodo Incorporated Chartered Accountants from 1996 to 2000 and has also served on numerous other boards since. He currently serves on the board of Evraz Highveld Steel and Vanadium Limited.

Garth was appointed chief executive of the Discount division in 2014. He joined Edcon as a strategic assignment executive in May 2008, and was more recently responsible for marketing, business strategy and pricing within the Discount division. Prior to joining Edcon, he was with McKinsey and Co where he occupied several key positions . He currently serves as a non-executive independent director and member of the audit committee on the board of Afrocentric investment Limited.
