Enterprise Development
|
Edcon is the leading clothing, footwear and textiles (CFT) retailing group in Southern
Africa, trading through a range of retail formats and therefore has a significant
role to play in stimulating growth in the country and transformation within the
retail sector.
Edcon recognises that the implementation of an Enterprise Development (ED) Policy
is an essential mechanism to meet and embrace the objectives set out in the Broad-Based
BEE Act 53 of 2003 and will enable Edcon to fulfil its commitment to BBBEE, facilitating
economic participation in the economy by black people, women and people with disabilities.
Edcon's ED strategy is to implement initiatives that will empower and transfer skills
to its employees, its customers and its suppliers.
Only enterprises that are either category A or B will be considered for ED programmes
|
Category A
Qualified Small Enterprises & Exempted Micro Enterprises (QSEs & EME's)
|
QSEs & EMEs which are 50% black owned or 50% black women owned
|
Category B
Any size of entity which are:
|
- 50% black owned or 50% black women owned (level 1-8)
- 25% black owned or 25% black women owned (level 1-6)
|
Only suppliers that have provided valid certificates validating their BBBEE status
will be considered for any ED initiatives and benefits.
Such initiatives will include the following:
- Joint ventures and partnership with our employees to facilitate
transfer of ownership of some of our stores to employees. In September 2006, prior
to the implementation of the BBBEE codes of good practice, Edcon rolled out its
first groundbreaking 'Fifty-Fifty' programme. The programme will enable qualified
Edcon store managers to own 50.1% of selected Jet stores.
- Supplier Development to ensure that all small to medium enterprises
that qualifies as per ED requirements (Category A and B) have access to monetary
and non-monetary support offered by Edcon. Such support includes training, mentorship,
provision of procurement opportunities, resource funding, short payment terms and
other support which will be determined by Edcon through its assessment of its suppliers.
- Edcon will also welcome other ED initiatives which may be targeted
at our customers.
The Transformation and Corporate Affairs division is continually evaluating business
proposals that are aligned to Edcon's core business principles. If you are aware
or have any suggestion of potential Enterprise Development initiative that you think
will add value our current core business activities, please feel free to forward
any proposals or enquiries to ED@edcon.co.za.
