Boardmans was acquired in April 2004 in order to strengthen the Group's position in the fast-growing home living retail segment. The chain consisted of 26 retail stores primarily based in appealing locations in South Africa's premier malls. We have added 30 freestanding stores and seven full-size locations within Edgars stores during the course of the past two financial years. The stores range in size from 800 to 2 700 square metres. Boardmans retains a strong brand name and devoted customer base.
Boardmans' aim is to provide the most complete home living solution in the mall. The merchandise assortment consists of well-priced core items, the best of international brands and the latest in fashion and technology. Significant synergies have been achieved between the existing home living departments within Edgars stores and Boardmans from both a product range and service offering standpoint. Edgars' proficiency in bedroom and bathroom ranges have been used to strengthen these areas within Boardmans. Likewise, Edcon has capitalised on Boardmans'heritage in kitchen and d'cor has been capitalised on in Edgars.
